I am savoring the last month of summer and enjoying the positive elemental energies of Fire that go with it.  One word I personally identify with that characterizes a balanced Fire element is social. While I enjoy a busy social life, some people can feel drained after social engagements. To maintain balance this month, be aware of when you are saying yes to an invitation when you really want to say, “no, thank you.”

I am in a networking group and everyone who attends is always interested in learning more about the members. Whenever someone asks me what I like to do, my answer is that I love to be social and support the community. I think connecting with other people has a lot of value and provides feedback about your life.

I have been listening to a wonderful book that I wanted to share with you. It’s called The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. One of the things he talks about is the importance of living from what he calls the “Zone of Genius.” He describes your zone of genius as “the place where your innate talents, passions and purpose intersect” and asks you to consider:

“How can I bring forth my genius in ways that serve others and myself at the same time?”

Reflecting on his question, I came to the conclusion that I am at my best when I am out socially and connecting people – whether it’s for a referral, business or social connection. If you ask any of my friends, they will say, “Oh, Betsy knows everybody!” It’s kind of a joke now, but I like being part of the community and I find being social as a way for me to share my love in the world.

To recognize your own genius zone:

  1. Pay attention to what you love doing: Identify activities you can do for hours without getting bored. These are likely aligned with your genius zone.
  2. Notice what others say about your strengths: If people compliment you on a particular skill or talent, consider it a sign of your genius zone.

Becoming aware of my zone of genius has been such a gift. It has elevated my overall sense of wellbeing and has allowed me to create from a true sense of value – I hope it will for you to.

Enjoy the rest of your summer and hope to see you at the spa very soon!

In Wellbeing,

Betsy
