We are currently in the midst of a transitional season, represented by the Earth element, which in traditional Chinese Medicine goes from mid-August until the autumnal equinox in late September.
During this short season, we are encouraged to ground, nurture and reflect on what has worked and what hasn’t so far this year. Try to avoid overthinking and worry which occurs when Earth is out of balance. It’s an ideal time to begin preparing for the fall/winter months ahead and ultimately the New Year where many of us start new projects.
When I was getting my degree in Spiritual Psychology, one of the people in my class was Iyanla Vanzant. She later went on to write a beautiful book called “In the Meantime: Finding Yourself and the Love You Want.” Conceptually, it perfectly characterizes the transitional time we are in now. In the book, she talks about “in the meantime” as an essential phase we all go through where we are not quite sure where we want to be yet, but are actively working towards it. The changes you make during this time help to build a stronger foundation so you can feel more grounded and prepared for the next chapter in your life.
We tend to rush into things – jobs, relationships, etc… without taking the time to consciously reflect on the importance of questions like: Do I really want this? What worked and what didn’t in similar situations in the past? And then we wonder why we find ourselves in the same repetitive patterns. Nature is not in a rush, so we shouldn’t be either. Fall will be here soon enough, in the meantime, lets focus on what is best for our personal wellbeing moving forward.
Simple steps that bring positive results this month:
Ground: This can be as simple as taking off your shoes and walking barefoot in the grass to connect with the earth.
Nurture: Self-care is always important and especially during transitional times. Come see us at the spa and treat yourself to a relaxing service.
Reflect: Spend time contemplating what is important to you. Are there any changes you could choose to make that would affect the quality of your life?
I hope these suggestions help you gain clarity during this transitional time and look forward to welcoming you back to the spa very soon!
