As we enter the month of March and transition into the element of wood, the principles of Chinese philosophy encourage us to align with the rhythms of nature and embrace the themes of growth, balance, and rebirth. This month is about new beginnings and fresh starts. It’s an ideal time to break old habits and plant new seeds.
For a while now, I have been dedicated to reshaping my old habitual thought patterns and it’s been inspiring to see the growth and positive change it has made in my life. This month, I intend to dig deeper and continue to shatter old belief systems that no longer serve who I am today. Breaking free from old, limiting beliefs can feel like shedding a second skin and while it may be challenging, it’s also deeply transformative.
Our belief systems are like the lenses we see the world through, and they have a profound impact on our overall wellbeing. They shape our behaviors, habits of thinking and directly affect our day-to-day experiences. Identifying what old beliefs you are holding onto and questioning whether they are still true for you today, is an empowering exercise.
Here are a few questions to get you started. It’s helpful to remain open to the idea that who you are and what you believe can evolve:
- Where did the belief come from? Was it shaped by your upbringing, society or personal experiences? Understanding the root can help you see the pattern more clearly.
- Question the old belief and challenge its validity – is it based on facts or assumptions?
- Keep or release the belief. Do you want this current belief to shape your reality? If not, replace it with a new belief that aligns with what is true for you now.
If we shatter the old belief systems, the new belief systems can come in to guide us. Now that I can see the growth in how I think, I am starting to go down a path where I am questioning whether the things I thought I wanted are true for me – maybe they aren’t anymore. Maybe I have to be open to new things and March is the month that will support me to do that. I hope it does for you as well.
Have a wonderful month and look forward to seeing you at the spa soon!
In wellbeing,
Betsy
