Have you ever found yourself lost in a life story you don’t want to be in?
I just got back from Hawaii, which was amazing, but I have still been in a funk about my daughter leaving for college. The story I have created around this is on a repetitive loop that continues to play in my head. It’s emotionally draining and I have to find the courage to move out of it.
We live in the feeling of our thinking. While I understand this intellectually, I haven’t been consciously practicing it emotionally. One of the reasons is because I haven’t been doing my spiritual work. When I do, it keeps my mind healthy and my body strong. I like to think of it as emotional sobriety because it keeps me sober from the negativity.
The Five Elements Theory emphasizes the importance of living in balance. Balance is essential because when the elements fall out of balance, it can significantly impact both our physical and emotional wellbeing. We don’t just get to skate in life. We have to learn to embrace the uncertainties and insecurities we all feel at times. It is the courage of the human spirit to continue to evolve and move forward, but you have to have courage to do the work to get yourself there.
We are still in the element of Fire. Fire is always trying to connect us with our inner joy and passion.
A great Fire question to contemplate this month is:
If you were the bravest version of yourself today, what would you have the courage to do?
For me, it is to honor my feelings of sadness but not get lost in them. To create a new narrative that reflects a more inspired perspective and to commit to daily spiritual practices that are essential to my wellbeing.
Whatever it is for you, I hope it elevates the story you are currently living out to reflect what brings you the greatest joy. As one of my favorite poets, E.E. Cummings, says, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”
Have a great month and Happy 4th of July!
