We welcome in the month of October with the seasonal element of Metal. Metal is the element that brings order, clarity, and refinement to our lives. When in harmony, it inspires us to focus and celebrate on the abundance we have created, while encouraging us to let go of unnecessary attachments that hold us back. When metal is not in harmony, it can cause prolonged feelings of sadness and grief.

Learning to let go has always been a challenging one for me. I don’t know about you, but there have been times in my life where I have held on to something long after I knew it was over. My thoughts would keep me stuck in old patterns and beliefs that wouldn’t allow me to move on.

Have you ever had that feeling in your heart that lets you know something has come to an end? It could be a job, a friendship, a marriage/relationship, but you held on to it because you thought it was the right thing to do, or because you were afraid something else wouldn’t come to replace it?

This is the season and the element that teaches us that those beliefs are not true. The trees lose their leaves every year and they never worry. They know they are preparing for a fresh, new creation in the spring and are grounded in that trust.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could embody that same knowing and trust? If we could have the certainty of the tree, that we were being supported in the natural changes that needed to be made for the new to come about? Of course, unlike the tree, we have human emotions that are always at play, but the truth is that we can have trust and certainty – and nature proves to us we can.

While thinking about what to say this month, I became concerned that my monthly notes might sound too much the same and I wanted to write something “new” about the energies of metal. But it occurred to me that the beauty and intelligence of the Five Element Theory is that there is nothing “new” about it. It is a simple, ancient, holistic philosophy that when applied, brings balance, health and wellbeing to our lives. The repetition in the generative cycle of the elements gives us something we can count on and provides us with the confidence we need each season to move our lives forward.

I hope the awareness of the metal energies this month helps you to release anything you are ready to let go, and that you take some time to celebrate and appreciate all the beauty you have created in your life so far this year!

Have a Happy Halloween!

In wellbeing,

Betsy
